Retail chains | In Principle

Retail chains operating in Poland must meet a number of requirements imposed upon retailers. In general, no particular permit is required to conduct consumer sales. An exception is the sale of certain goods such as alcoholic beverages or pharmaceuticals. Also, the sale of food requires approval from sanitary authorities.

Retailers must observe certain laws concerning presentation of prices for offered goods, in accordance with the Price Act of 5 July 2001 and executive regulations. These regulations surpass EU regulations in detail. Moreover, retailers have numerous duties arising from regulations governing consumer sales which obligate them to provide consumers certain information and product use instructions in Polish. Retailers are also liable to consumers for inconsistencies between the product and the sales contract.
